Cult-O-Rama: Y2Killer Remakes

Midnight weekend screenings happen on Friday & Saturday nights (meaning arrive on Friday and/or Saturday night by 11:45pm for seating, the movie starts after midnight)!

Run Time: 200 min.

We’re officially declaring September “Cult-O-Rama’s Millennial Month!”  As this new tradition dictates, we are legally bound during the month of September to bring you two contemporary cult films from the turn of the century. This year, we dove into the deep well of Y2K’s remake trend. New? Sure! Improved? Um… that’s up to you to decide.

The Wicker Man (2006) – Yes… the bees. Calling this one a remake of the 1973 film is generous, but it keeps the same loose structure: When police officer Edward (the one and only Nicolas Cage) travels to a remote island to locate a missing child, he counters a community marked by strange behavior. Everything else about this goes way off-book, so maybe we’ll call it a reimagining instead. However, this does imagine Nicolas Cage in a big bear suit, so we’re pretty certain you’ll enjoy the lack of balance.

House on Haunted Hill  (1999) – God, we love an ensemble cast of 90s stars in a blockbuster horror movie, and this one sure doesn’t disappoint. Geoffrey Rush is a sadistic rollercoaster tycoon offering a cash prize of $1 million to anyone who can stay in an abandoned hospital all night without running out screaming. The players include Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, Peter Gallagher, and Chris Kattan. Do we really need to drop anymore names to convince you? Okay, we’ll stop (cough Lisa Loeb cameo cough)

Cult movies rule at Row House Cinema! Join us for double features of some of the wildest, weirdest, and best cult films and B movies that you don’t often find the big screen one Friday night each month. There will be trivia, the big bag o’ crap, and whatever other fun surprises our host Cara dreams up!
