“Rijeka or death!” was the rallying cry of an egomaniacal Italian poet who marched 300 soldiers into Rijeka, the 3rd largest city in Croatia, seized it, and became the model for all of the WW2 fascist movements including Mussolini.

A century later, the people who live there reenact the unbelievable saga with wit, fury, and a punk spirit. FIUME O MORTE! is a wildly inventive true story about ego, propaganda, and what happens when politics becomes theater.

His 16-month reign left such a legacy that current denizens (street-cast in a brilliant montage) are more than a little willing to play-act as his soldiers.
