Come celebrate the first year of Row House – Hollywood — Dormont! It’s been a busy one, and we’ve had a lot of fun and learned a lot!
We’ll be doing a special screening of the film that inspired the new theater’s interior — Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis — with a live accompaniment by Pittsburgh’s Keebs, performing a hybrid live performance / DJ set created for this film.
In a gleaming futuristic city sharply divided between the pleasure gardens of the rich above and the machine halls of the workers below, Freder, the son of the city’s mastermind, meets a prophet who predicts the coming of a savior to mediate their differences in Fritz Lang’s iconic silent film. Nearly a century later, Metropolis remains the blueprint for science fiction on screen — and its story of a world split between “head” and “hands,” waiting for a heart to mediate them, has only grown sharper.
Keebs will perform an original electronic accompaniment created for this screening. Part DJ set, part live performance, the soundtrack will be built from pulsing machine rhythms, deep dub low end, and wide-open ambient space. One night only, played live on stage in sync with the picture.
