Akira Kurosawa retells Macbeth by replacing lords and kings with samurai and emperors in this rendition set in medieval Japan. Brutal, suspenseful, and visually stunning — this is by far one of the best Shakespeare adaptations ever made for the screen.

Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand star in Joel Coen’s fresh and brooding take on Macbeth. Shot in silvery black and white with an abundance of fog and gloom, Macbeth packs a punch of drama that’s only fitting for one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. (2021)
