Fun fact: Mary Shelley dreamed up Frankenstein when she entered a playful spooky story competition with John Polidori and Lord Byron. Even more fun fact: If she didn’t already win based on merit, she definitely won when these two wholly unserious interpretations of her story were unleashed upon the world.
Frankenhooker (1990) – When Elizabeth (Patty Mullen) is killed in a tragic lawnmower accident, her fiancé Jeffrey (James Lorinz) expresses his grief in a reasonable way – by killing NYC’s ladies of the night and harvesting their body parts to bring his beloved back to life. This titled on-the-nose cult classic from Frank Henenlotter, the twisted mind that brought you Basket Case, will have you in…stitches. Get it? Stitches?? Is this thing on??
Flesh for Frankenstein (1973) – Young Udo Kier being a lil’ freak. Did that get your attention? Well, let me sweeten the deal: young Udo Kier plays Baron von Frankenstein, who has two things: a repressed wife who is also his sister, and a lab in his dungeon that he uses to create a master race from dead bodies. He’s made the female, and he’s got his eye on the philandering stableboy to become her new mate. Released with the title “Andy Warhol’s Frankenstein” and immediately slapped with an X-rating, Flesh for Frankenstein is not for those with delicate sensibilities…only weirdos will be admitted.
