Run Time: 200 min.
Every July, we here at Cult-O-Rama like to warn you against the beach. The sun? Yuck! The sand? Get it outta here! The water? Filled with pee! But there are other lesser-known dangers of which you might not be aware. Last year, we gave you tales of a disturbed shark psychic and a homicidal jellyfish man. This year is somewhat based more in reality… and in this century! Rare for us!
*Note: Both of these films were originally released in 3D. Unfortunately, they will not be screened in 3D. But they’re still fun!
Bait (2012)
For the first time in the history of the program, Cult-O-Rama is bringing you a selection from Down Undah and it’s a real doozy! It’s already a bad enough time to get hit with a tsunami, but can you imagine if the tsunami trapped you in a supermarket with a bunch of randos? Even worse, what if that supermarket got flooded and also brought in a gaggle of bloodthirsty sharks? It’s up to the likes of this ensemble cast, including Sharni Vinson and Julian McMahon, to help paint a picture of what that could look like for you.
Piranha (2010)
This is a remake of Joe Dante’s 1978 film in the same way that “Wuthering Heights” is a faithful adaptation of the classic novel: it’s a lot hornier and there’s an absolutely stacked cast! When an earthquake creates a big, ol’ split in the lake floor of a small Arizona town, a bunch of prehistoric piranhas are released. Are some spring breakers and visiting pornographers brave enough to take on the swarm of little toothy fishies? You gotta come find out! See what Adam Scott got up to before earning all that praise for Severance!
